Karl

Harvard University, Bachelor of Arts in Studies of Women and Gender. Secondary Field in Music, Language Citation in Chinese, 2015. Harvard-Beijing Academy, 2012.

Originally hailing from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Karl is a STEM and test prep specialist. He was a star student at Chapel Hill High School, where he was the President of both the Science Olympiad and Latin Clubs. Karl was a leader in the arts community there, involved in theater, a cappella, and chamber chorus. He used his musical talents to become founder of Songs for Smiles, an organization that provides music to those in need. In addition, he also worked for the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

His academic and artistic strengths brought him to Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, and he graduated in 2015. During his years in college, Karl was heavily involved in theater, performing in 40 shows with Harvard's Hasty Pudding theatricals in Cambridge, New York, and Bermuda. He also performed in ten productions with the Harvard Radcliffe Dramatic Club.

It was during his time at Harvard when he discovered his gift for teaching. He began teaching English over the summer at Uniwise Bilingual School in Dongguan, China, then taught classes in Boston's Chinatown ESL program. From there, he began to teach test prep and subject classes and one-on-one sessions. In New York, in addition to one-on-one tutoring, he has taught SAT classes at Big Brothers Big Sisters and at Awaken Education's SAT classes in partnership with the non-profit Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York.

Overall, Karl has six years of teaching experience in both New York and Boston, specializing in all levels of STEM subjects (especially math), Chinese, Biology, Chemistry, English, ACT, SAT, SSAT, and all other subjects. With his impressive academic prowess, he has helped hundreds of students improve their grades in school, achieve higher scores on their standardized tests, gain confidence, and even enjoy class. His friendly and approachable teaching style puts all students at ease, and his genuine personality and enthusiasm are the keys to motivating even the most jaded or shy students.

When he is not tutoring or teaching in the classroom, Karl is an actor and producer at the Art of Warr theater company. He is also a graduate of Maggie Flanagan Acting Studio in Chelsea, Manhattan, where he resides.
