Jeff

Columbia University, Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Riverdale Country School.

Jeff has been tutoring in New York City for approximately half his life. As he attended Riverdale Country School, he began tutoring younger students in middle school and continued to tutor throughout high school and college.

He was a Scholar in the prestigious Albert G. Oliver Scholars Program, a rigorous private/boarding school preparatory program. The teachers at the program recognized his exceptional academic talent, and one of them promptly hired him to work for his company, Strategem Academic Consultants. There, he tutored high school students in a wide variety of subjects including Calculus, Statistics, and SAT Prep. At Oliver Scholars, he was the lead tutor in American history and algebra and volunteered intensively, co-hosting many community soup kitchens. Jeffrey also played baseball, basketball, and football at Riverdale.

Then, Jeff attended Columbia University, where he majored in Economics and was on the Dean's List. His curious nature led him to take classes on a wide variety of topics including math, music, religion, African-American Studies, psychology, and American Studies. In addition, he was chosen to be a Thompson-Muñoz Scholar, which is a merit scholarship given to talented members of Columbia College and Columbia School of Engineering. During his sophomore year, he was an Executive Board Member at TECHO, an organization that raises money to construct homes for impoverished families in the Dominican Republic.

Since graduation, Jeff has been pursuing his dream of becoming a sports agent one day. He plans to apply to Columbia's JD/MBA program one day in order to help reach this goal. Jeff is a huge fan of the New York Yankees, and he is a bilingual tour guide for them when he is not tutoring.

Jeff's approach to tutoring is warm and friendly, and he makes a point of challenging the student. He typically employs the Socratic method, asking questions in order to help the student come to the answer by their own reasoning. This way, his students are learning how to study, analyze, and think about the material, and they are set up to succeed even when Jeff is not there.

In his spare time, Jeff enjoys traveling and playing sports including basketball, cycling, and squash. He is passionate about not only playing sports, but also sports analytics, pursuing a personal project using econometrics as a predictive tool for sports matches. He is also interested in music production and Latin American/Carribean Culture, and he is fluent in Spanish.
