Originally from Missoula MT, David moved to NYC in 2015 to begin medical school at Weill Cornell Medical College. He is nearing graduation and plans to pursue residency training in emergency medicine starting in Summer 2019. David began his involvement science education as an undergraduate student at the University of Montana. After receiving high marks in his undergraduate Anatomy and Physiology course (considered one of the hardest classes on campus), David was selected to be a teaching assistant for the class. As a TA, he designed lesson plans, taught small groups in lab rotations, and dissected cadavers to be presented to students. In addition, he tutored students in difficult science courses including Organic Chemistry and volunteered extensively at the SpectrUM children’s science museum where he helped design and maintain an exhibit on genetics and neurobiology. He also taught seminars on neuroanatomy and other topics in biology in local public school classrooms as a volunteer teacher.
As an undergraduate, David was also involved in genetics and neuroscience research in the Certel Lab. There, he became a published scientist with a peer-reviewed research article titled “Astrocyte-specific regulation of human MeCP2 expression in Drosophila.” As a medical student, David has continued to pursue research and has studied treatment of pediatric epilepsy in the emergency room. David is also one of the directors of the Weill Cornell Community Clinic where he helps provide free primary care services to uninsured New Yorkers.
When he is not tutoring science, researching, or treating patients, David enjoys spending time with his fiancée, rock climbing, eating all the delicious foods in NYC, and listening to music.
